AVSH ALOM GUR London Fashion Week S/S 09

Day 4 ..16th Sept

Day 4 was the turn of Cooperative Designs, Avsh Alom Gur, Bernard Chandran and LG (more about LG later) I'm going with the inspiration of the furniture kind, Cooperative Designs and Avsh Alom Gur. I did toy around with the idea of posting both video shorts but settled with Avsh. The Co-ops vanguard spirit drew inspiration from the work of the late Ettore Sottsass, founding member of the Memphis Design Group . Craft- knits, sportswear and abstract post modernism (of which I know little about) are brought together to create a daring range of knitwear that takes in bold coloured stripes, crochet and extra extra long scarfs.

On the flip side Avsh Alom Gur questions when is a chair not a chair ? I'd suggest when it crosses with a 1950's frou frou pinny. The story goes, watch the video short to the end and listen to Avsh telling the tale. But he was out one day and came across a chair and an apron, with the help of Dean Sidaway and stylist Kate Ruth the chair and pinny are reclaimed into a collection that's both contemporary and traditional. Vivacious, fresh, energetic and happy the perfect anecdote for our no summer summers. There are loads of great pieces but be sure to look out for the striped chair print ! Is there a couch to go with that chair?
