Paper Fashion

At the risk of morphing into an fashion events vestibule, lest we forget life after fashion weeks! this came via MoMu Fashion Museum Antwerp. Reading the text Paper Fashion (formerly RRRIPP!! PAPER FASHION) I anticipated 'an exhibition themed on cut paper dolls and cut out paper outfits with the little cut out turn over tabs (am I nursing a secret hankering to play with dolls.. or it could the Independent Fashion Bloggers flyer below playing tricks on me) To the contrary PAPER FASHION is an exhibition about paper, the alternative textile. What started as gimmick marketing aid in 1966 by the Scott Paper Company turned into an idea revisited by innovative designers and has never quite disappeared. The largest collection (400 pieces) is held at the Atopos Cultural Organisation and dates back to the 60's. Alongside a selection from Atopos will be designs by Hussein Chalayan,
A.F. Vandevorst, John Galliano, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Van Saene, Issey Miyake et al. After that, by the end of the year Paper Fashions will here in the UK at the Design Museum London.
