Naomi Sims 30th March 1948 - 1st August 2009

Browsing Media Takeout and came across an article about Naomi Sims. Naomi was the first black supermodel and founder & CEO the Naomi Sims Collection. She passed away over the weekend from cancer, she was only 61 years old. Naomi Sims leaves behind an inspiring legacy, she broke through as a dark skinned black model in the late 60's.
Can only image the journey but it was from the best of times working as as model in 70's opening doors for Naomi Campbell, Iman, Jourdan Dunn and other black models. She's inspiring both as a model and a business woman. After modelling for 5 years, being Halston's muse, photographed by Andy Warhol, she left modelling to be an entrepreneur at the age of 24
Starting out with a line of wigs The Naomi Sims Collection also included skin care and beauty products designed for black women, she was an author, a wife and a no doubt a multi tasking mum! She had an amazing career and like many who've achieved a measure of success was fortunate that she listened to that inclination.
