SHOW RCA 2010 // Eleanor Bolton

Show RCA 2010 is the Royal College of Art end of show. Its the one where the worlds only Postgraduate school gets to show of work future artists and creative's who go on and make their mark in the competitive international art industry. I was invited along to the preview and was excited to go, an of all the graduate shows taking place in London at this time of year, this is the show that is guaranteed to make me covet the creative gene. You cant help but be inspire by fantastic and truly beautiful works of art.

It's quite a big show, featuring works by over 70 students from the fine arts, image makers include photography and printing. Applied arts includes ceramics, glass, gold & silver smiths, metalwork and jewellery. And a lovely space to exhibit in, I wandered around from works to works picking out personal favourites.

Eleanor Bolton's a jewellery and object designer, she has crafted a technique for coiling and stitching cotton rope into striking rope jewellery. There's a skill to this hand-craft, she writes patterns as you would for knitting or crochet, hand dyes her coloured rope into nautical themes. And creates these bewildering large scale, architectural jewellery pieces. At the very least I expected some sort of moulding process had been used to create the chunky, sphere detail. But the soft and tactile material is used to create shapes inspired by experimenting with the the natural movement, knotting and twisting of rope into surprisingly lightweight neckwear! I really love Eleanor's in your face style, she tells me there's to come ..look out for a collaboration in the final collection of RCA women's wear student Sam McCoach (a hint of what to expect on F.tape) and another good reason to look forward to the RCA SHOW Fashion coming up on the 10th June..
