'Isabella Blow' is the book written Martina Rink, Blow's former assistant. It's dedicated to one fashion most extravagant personalities. Flamboyant, astute, kind of kooky and just plan old different is how I remember stories of Blow. Hoping to experience some of the theatre that was Blow's character. The launch at the Haunch of Venison in Burlington Gardens was busy but more sombre than I expected. I thumbed through a copy of the book, more than outstanding photography 13 words for Isabella Blow by Stefan Bruggemann stuck out the most. A considered choice of words includes dejection, extraordinary, beyond and NO! I'm guessing Rink's relationship with Blow details some of why these words were so poignant. She delves into the mystery that is Blow via the people who knew her well enough to know.
The twinkle behind names like Philip Treacy, Alexander McQueen, Sophie Dahl and Hussein Chalayan. Blow's legacy as recounted by her Rink is taken from personal letters and memories of people who knew her. With the foreword written by Philip Treacy and a transcript of the Memorial Speech Anna Wintour delivered at Blows funeral 3 years ago contributors to 'Isabella Blow' reads like a who's who's in fashion, Mario Testino, Manolo Blahnik, Hussein Chalayan, Bryan Ferry, Juergen Teller, Dita von Teese, Anna Piaggi, Rankin, Donald McPherson, Sean Ellis, Richard Burbridge and Paul Smith to name a few.
